As a child of the 80's, let me just say, PLEASE don't prejudge this film by the pathetic remake(City of angels) because that film deserves no associations. Wim Wenders' outstanding 1987 masterpiece is a film that will make you realise what a compassionate place Berlin must have been through those unspeakable times when that inhumane thing(the Berlin wall) was still standing, apart from that Wings of desire tells an inspired story of wanting and love through the eyes of angels who wander around this blighted city, hearing the thoughts of humans, though unable to interact. Wings of Desire tells the story of Damiel, an angel who falls for a mortal, Marion, a human trapeze artist(with a taste for alternative music), he follows her and eventually makes the switch to humanity and seeks her out, along with him is Cassiel, who has another story in ''Wings of Desires'follow up 'Faraway so close' which(in my opinion only) was an even more intriguing story, but hey judge for yourselves. of all the films ever made, Wings of desire and Faraway so close are two films that will never be forgotten. Wim Wenders is in my top 5 favourite directors of all time along with David Lynch and Martin Scorsese, he is a very underrrated filmaker, to those not in the know.....check out hiswork, you wont be dissappointed.Read full review
This movie changed my life, or at least my world-view. I first saw it in a theater as a youngster, college age, coming out of my teens--the years of "knowing everything." I wore my newfound cynicism rather proudly, and then I saw this movie. Wow. It immediately impressed upon me what a gift it is to be alive, even to feel pain because it is part of LIVING. It has been decades since I was a college kiddo, and, yes, life is often challenging, even overwhelming. All of us who have suffered and lost loved ones during this Pandemic know that life is often almost too much. I watched this movie recently, after years of trying to find a decent copy, and it still just made me feel empowered by life, rather than run over by life. There are so many moments of beauty and rich philosophy, and they are presented in a way that doesn't feel like a sermon. Wonderful movie! Read full review

I love Wim Wenders. I have watched "Wings of Desire" more time than any others of his films. I love how deep and melancholy it is... and "Columbo" what a hoot! The included extras up the value.

I first saw this film in the theater some 20 yrs ago, it made a big impression on me then, after watching it I realized how very special our time on earth really is...what got me the most was the close ups of the look into the actor Bruno Ganz eyes, he reveals so much about this film in his expressions, and then your off on this new journey with him to whatever my come his way, this is one of my all time favorite films, and now finally to own it on DVD, you will have to be patient with this film, as it will make you think later on about what you have just seen, I find myself watching this film for years to come when I need something to pick me back up, it makes me want to jump up and say, its so Great and Cool to be alive in the times we are now living!
