I have always liked the AVANTE GARDE, ESPECIALLY THOSE MOVIES DONE IN THE EARLY AND LATE 60'S. Even though I found some of the content very distrubing, I still liked the artisit quality of Werner Herzog. I especially like those films with the actor Klaus Kinski. even though he didn't plya well with others. utimately, Herzog had to leave him alone. Too Bad.
If you're looking for a sort of raw feel to film and you don't mind subtitles and you don't speak German, you'll enjoy most of what Herzog does. Herzog did Grizzly Man, to give you an example of his current stuff. However, allot of this collection is some of his earlier stuff. I won't comment on any particular film because I'm not a film critic. However, I will say that I love well done movies from any genre, and Herzog has been noted by experts as being able to blend documentary style pacing with regular acting and screenwriting. It's as if you are bearing witness to the birth of a new style of filming as you watch his technique. I really don't know a better way to describe it. You get to peer into the mind of a genius as you piece together the themes and storylines of these gems. It's fun stuff, take my word on that.Read full review
This collection Of Werner Herzog's films spans the the 30+ years of his film career and his styles of film making. None of them involve Klaus Kinski performances but these films show that Herzog doesn't always need intense actors to tell a story. Of course, you have the quite modern documentary style films with "Little Dieter Needs to Fly, the abstract epics of "FataMorgana" , "Lessons Of Darkeness" but, you also get great classic floklore drama films like "The Legend of Kasper Hauser" and "Heart of Glass" and "Stroszek". Also, the surreal cult classic "Even Dwarves Started Small" is the cherry on top of this collection. You can get a sense of insight while watching these films with the commentary provided for every movie along with guest Crispen Glover and some of the others who had a hand in the creation of the films. A collection like this is a nice introduction of Mr. Herzog's films and make you search for his other works.Read full review
Brand new boxed with short printed guide, in plastic wrap, 7 DVDs with various bonus features. However, one DVD listed as having two films on it only yielded one title (Lessons in Darkness), and two other DVDs were identical(Hearts of Glass), so I ended up with one title missing (Fata Morgana). Quality of films and packaging is fine. Price was a bargain as advertised, only fair as actually received.
