Sam Pekinpah's first forray into non-western territory is an absolute masterpiece. Essential 70's cinema. Probably the most insightful and uncomfortable meditation on violence (both physical and emotional) that i've seen. Also, the production, action, and direction really holds up well over time. The feel of the story isn't really unique to any decade or small town so it forces the viewer to focus on the themes that are presented. This movie pissed a lot of people off and apparently was banned in the UK for quite some time. But like most things that are worth taking something from, it is challenging and difficult to make sense of at first. There is a lot more revealed in second or third viewings, particulary in regards to the cruelty of Hoffman's character. Anyway, i would recommend this to anyone that is a fan of film. This one's a classic.Read full review

a great film set in celtic cornwall at the very end of the lizard peninsula, essentially about the quiet man who rages inside and then finally unleashes all that pent up frustration on those who taunt and anger him. a mathematician from america and his english wife move back to her native cornwall and the locals are far from friendly, the couple initially ignore this but are pushed to the point where they feel their safety is under threat.
Straw Dogs, directed by maverick filmmaker Sam Peckinpah and its one of his five greatest masterpieces, one of the most contraversial films every made, Violence, Controntation, and Rape drive Dustin Hoffman to his most challenging performance ever, a man who finally unleashes himself to the razors edge.
A good movie
