    A sad but true story of human condition––misfortune, evil, percerverence, and love's triumph.

    Beautiful Criterion remastering. Great but very sad movie. Lovely to watch. Outstanding score. Classic old school storytelling, where film direction supports the story.

    溝口 健二 Mizoguchi Kenji classic 1954 film!!

    What a year for Japanese cinema in 1954. "Seven Samurai" by Kurosawa, "Godzilla" by Honda, and "Sansho The Bailiff" by Mizoguchi. Japanese cinema was putting out incredible films in the 1950's, it probably has never come close to such a ground breaking decade since.
