A charming tale of various delightful French characters who show up at their customary hotel by the sea for their annual vacation. Outings, tennis, missteps by Hulot, communal dining, sight gags, and pleasant souls combine to showcase a slice of French life that has long been destroyed. It is, however, charming, as I say, and evokes what you may feel in the last warm days of autumn that are just so perfect but you know are short lived.

Lots of fun watching the goofy antics of the Mr. Hulot. I didn't give it 5 stars because the story line is so formless. But the Mr. Hulot's amusing, quirky escapades are so entertaining that I excuse a lot of the chaos.

This is by far the best copy of this movie I’ve seen it on a vhs format, but with this criterion copy there’s a clarity to this I haven’t for a long time. With this copy, the mismatched edits, the uneven image quality is gone. Very pleased with this copy.
