PLOT: ~ a child killer is being HUNTED by just about everyone. 1931~ Germany ~ We see little girls being *stalked* and eventually BRIBED and lulled go with a man they call UNCLE~ They turn up missing and DEAD~ soon the police are hunting the EVIL *child murder*~ the endless RAIDS on flop houses, underground dives, round up of crooks, prostitutes and theives has the underworld deciding to HUNT the KILLER and takes the manhunt on as their new cause~ they recruit the organzied group of REGISTERED BEGGARS~ and soon the hunter is the hunted~ ADDED thrills as we watch the GANG hunting down the killer room by room and the building he dashes into to HIDE~ PETER LORRE has his first dramatic role~ and is first rate as the WILD EYED child stalker~ ADD the BLIND witness who gives the BEST clue a tune whistled by the killer~ Fritz Lang is first rate in this masterpiece of thrills and dark moods. This was Langs first sound movie and he uses SILENCE as one of his most valuable tools when shooting this movie. GERMAN with English Subtitles~ fimed and then not released for several years due to unappealing content (child killing) ~ BANNED in Nazi Germany in 1934~ this movie is ON just about eveyones MUST see list. Peter Lorre could NOT whistle so LANG did the job~ Lorre said this movie made his career but he was often loathed for his too real performance as the child killer~ a bit of odd fact is Lang used REAL life criminals for the kangaroo court scene and up to 25 of his *cast* ware arrested during the film. shot in glorious black and white. I give this one 5 STARS for plot, direction and excellent quality print. a MUST see gem.Read full review
An historical treat! Compelling story about a child murderer (Peter Lorre) and the combined forces that try to bring him to “justice”. The police are joined by the underworld in the hunt, because the murdererer is disrupting their activities.

classic movie heard about for years, finally saw it this weekend. it's in german, so ya' gotz to be able to read yo' seriously though, suspenseful, frightening, well acted,great cinematography, ambient and moody. peter lorre at the start of his career, scary and scared. highly recommended
